How is Landmark like other colleges?
Our students are bright and talented. Some have struggled their entire lives in traditional classrooms. Others have earned excellent high school grades and high SAT scores. Nearly a third of our students transferred to Landmark from other colleges and universities after realizing they weren't prepared for the demands of college — and being separated from their supportive family and high school environments.
How is Landmark like other colleges?
Landmark is a residential college with dorms, dining facilities, counseling and health services, clubs and organizations, theater productions, sports and exercise facilities, and study abroad programs.
How is Landmark different from other colleges?
Landmark College exists solely to serve students with learning disabilities and/or AD/HD. We create highly personalized, successful learning strategies for students who learn differently. Here, you’ll find everyone is focused on helping you achieve your goal. You’ll live and learn with other students with learning disabilities. And, you’ll be taught by faculty members recognized as being among the most skilled LD educators in the field.
What degrees are offered at Landmark?
Students who graduate from Landmark College earn an Associate of Arts (AA) degree. Students can choose from four tracks: General Studies, Liberal Arts, Business Studies and Business Administration.
How many faculty members are at Landmark and what’s the student/faculty ratio?
We have 100 faculty members and a 5:1 student/faculty ratio — one of the smallest in the country. Every faculty member at Landmark has both deep subject knowledge and an expertise in the field of learning disabilities.
How many students attend Landmark?
More than 450 students attend Landmark, representing 40 states and seven foreign countries. Most first-year students live on campus in one of our seven residence halls.
What’s the student gender ratio?
The ratio of men to women at Landmark College is approximately 70/30.
What types of clubs and activities are available on campus?
Landmark offers a variety of clubs and organizations, intercollegiate, intramural and club sports, and campus events, including theater productions and Coffee House performances. Want to be a leader? Get involved in the Student Government Association or the Campus Activities Board. The CAB brings in pre-release movies and organizes such campus events as Casino Night, Lazer Tag, Semi-Formal Dance, and talent shows. Women’s Programs provide social and educational programs for women on and off campus.
What’s there to do on campus?
There’s always something going on around campus, whether it's Game Night or Open Mic Night in the campus Game Room, Hip Hop Dance or Co-ed Yoga, Art Night, or Live Music and Pizza Night. For a current list of campus events, click here: https://intranet.landmark.edu/.
What’s there to do off campus?
On Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, you can take Landmark’s complimentary shuttle service to Brattleboro, Keene and Holyoke to see a movie, go to a restaurant, or do some shopping. Landmark also provides regular shuttle trips to Boston. During ski season, we offer Saturday shuttles to Mt. Snow for skiing, snowboarding and tubing. And, our Adventure Education program organizes evening and weekend activities, including camping, canoeing, caving, cross-country skiing, ice climbing, rock climbing, ropes course, and whitewater rafting.
Does Landmark offer any sports?
Yes, we have intercollegiate sports, including men’s soccer, basketball and baseball; women’s soccer, basketball and softball; and men’s/women’s cross-country. We also offer numerous club sports (recreational ice hockey, fencing, boxing and martial arts, badminton and indoor soccer), plus intramural sports (basketball, floor hockey, Frisbee golf, volleyball, softball, beach volleyball and flag football).
How close is Landmark to a big city and how far away are the ski resorts?
Landmark is located in the southeastern tip of Vermont, just 35 minutes north of Northampton, Mass., and the “five colleges” region (which includes Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith colleges and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst). We’re only 2-1/2 hours from Boston and 4-1/2 hours from New York City or Montreal, Canada — the perfect distance for a day trip or weekend getaway. Our campus is just minutes away from some of the best skiing and snowboarding on the East Coast.
Are students allowed to have a car on campus?
Yes. Cars brought to campus must be registered with Campus Security and have the required parking permit.
Can I bring a refrigerator or microwave for my dorm?
Not sure -- check with Admissions.
Is the campus wireless?
Yes, Landmark is wireless — but we go way beyond that. We use the latest technology to boost your learning power. Technology is integrated throughout our curriculum. Our computer notebook program, which requires every student to have a laptop computer and a suite of required software, means every student can take advantage of the latest in assistive technology.
What kind of assistive technology is available at Landmark?
Landmark College is the leader in the integration of assistive technology for students with learning disabilities and/or AD/HD. Advancements in information technology — such as text-to-speech programs — offer exciting opportunities that can enhance and lead to breakthrough learning experiences for students. Because technology plays such a critical role in our educational program, we offer a full range of assistive technology services, including opportunities to explore new technologies, consultation regarding use, troubleshooting support, opportunities for training through individual and small group work, and scanning of course texts.
Does Landmark offer scholarships or financial aid?
Of course! Landmark’s financial aid packages typically consist of a mix of state and federal grants and loans, plus a limited number of academic scholarships of up to $30,000. We also offer convenient payment plans. Our Financial Aid office will work with you and your family throughout the entire financial aid process.
How can I visit the campus?
We offer campus tours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 11:30 AM. While you are here, we’d be glad to schedule an informational visit with one of our admissions representatives. If you want a more in-depth look, register for one of our Open House events held on Saturdays throughout the year. This day long program includes presentations by administrators and staff, a demonstration of assistive technology, student panel discussion, campus tour and lunch in our dining facility. Do you have jobs on campus?
Yes, part-time jobs are available on campus through the federal work study program for students with demonstrated financial need. Typical jobs include office assistant, bookstore cashier, library assistant, peer tutor, gym manager and building manager. A limited number of on-campus jobs also are available for students without demonstrated financial need.
